Open Science

What is open science?

Open science is a movement that advocates more openness, transparency and collaboration in the whole research cycle. It includes but not limited to open access, open data, open source code, open education, etc.

Why we support open science?

We believe that open science can bring out a more inclusive, collaborative, transparent world of research. Open access and open data reduce barriers to scientific publications and results, which will accelerate research progress and enhance collaboration in research community.

By making research process more open, integrity and reproducibility of scientific research can be largely improved, which is essential to build trust among each other and thus enables researchers to tackle global complex problems together.

Open access and open science

Open access is part of the open science movement. It refers to a publication model that allows research outputs to be accessed freely by anyone from anywhere through internet. It also reduces permission barriers and allows users to read, download, copy, share, store, print, search, link, and crawl full-text of the work, as long as appropriate attribution to the original author and source is given. Based on different licenses, open access also allows others to re-use, reproduce, and build upon the material without any additional restrictions.

Article processing charges

Open access is not without cost. It is usually made possible by an article processing charge (APC) paid by authors. The APC can often be covered by institutions or research funds.

APC details for Hapres journals can be found in each journal’s website. We only collect APC after the article is accepted after peer-review, and there are no charges for rejected papers, color figures or page charges.

All papers in Hapres journals are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), with copyright retained by the authors.
